Abstract
aThe present paper tries to discuss about the importance of getting accurate knowledge of flow properties for predicting and analyzing the governing nature of the river flow. With regard to the important effect of the flow velocity and shear stress forces on river bank erosion, we applied a two-dimensional numerical model, namely CCHE2D, to simulate river flow pattern at a meandering river reach, Khoshk-e-Rud River of Farsan, located 30 Km west of Shahrekord city. For this purpose, at first, we designed the model geometry and mesh grid by using the topographic maps of the studied location. In the next step, the measured properties of the river flow were entered into the model and the Depth-Average, Two-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Model was run. The model outputs such as depth and velocity distribution of flow were extracted from the river bend section. Based on the obtained results the calculated and observed flow velocity values at three cross sections were 0.90, 0.914, 0.978; 1.01, 1.02 and 1.174, respectively. The calculated and observed values of flow depth were 0.937, 1.016, 0.892; 0.947, 0.839 and 0.890, respectively. It can be concluded that the values calculated by the model have a good compatibility with observed data at the considered meandering river reach.
