Abstract
In this research, a two dimensional model is developed in order to simulate the dam break based on the finite volume method by using shallow water equations. At first, the shallow water equations are solved by cell-centric finite volume method on unstructured triangular grid. The flow computing method was Harten-Lax_va Leer based on the approximate Riemann solver. For development of the model in solving equations, the Second order spatial (Roe’s upwind) and third order temporal (Runge-Kutta) methods are used. This approach models the existing discontinuities and avoids the instabilities which are formed near dry and wet border. Finally the model is validated through some standard examples. Results showed that the mean percentage error of the model was 2.6 percent in comparison to the standard problems that confirms the model has appropriate performance in simulating dam break.
