Abstract
One method to increase efficiency of energy dissipation in the flip bucket spillway is installation of deflector. Deflector is a wedge-shaped structure which creates changes in part of flow trajectory. In this study, flow in the bucket with approach channel were divided into two parts by deflector. For the purpose of this study, after setting up the physical model, experiments were conducted at three Froude numbers equal to 2.6, 3.4 and 4.3 by using deflectors with 3, 6, 9 cm length, and 12°,22°, 32° and 42° angles. Analysis of data showed that the clashing of these two flow trajectories increased energy dissipation in flip bucket. Energy dissipation by using deflector was 62.1% which is 29% more than the case without deflector. Also using of deflector led to decrease the ratio of jump length to bucket radius. The maximum decrease was 41.7% compared to the without deflector case.
