Abstract
This paper presents numerical modeling of pressure oscillations caused by sudden closure of pipe according to the second order Godunov type finite volume scheme by solving the momentum and quantity equations of transient flows. The transient friction is applied to the model using three kinds of fiction models: quasi-steady Darcy-Wiesbach friction model and unsteady Brunone and Vardy-Brown friction models. To verify the developed model, calculated pressure oscillations considering proper boundary conditions, in a range of Reynolds number from laminar to turbulent flows, is compared with experimental Results. The quantitative and qualitative evaluation of present model will result in selecting a proper transient friction model for each initial Reynolds number.
